All-Out Response on Every Front
Gangjin County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Kang Jinwon) has launched an all-out response to prevent the spread of livestock diseases, following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease at a neighboring Hanwoo farm in Yeongam and the subsequent escalation of the livestock disease crisis level to 'Severe' since the 14th.
According to the county on the 19th, a Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters was established and is in operation. In addition, gatherings of those involved in the livestock industry have been banned, and livestock markets have been temporarily closed (until the situation is resolved). Text messages regarding quarantine guidelines have been sent to all farming organizations, urging thorough self-disinfection and monitoring at each farm.

Currently, the county is raising approximately 67,000 cloven-hoofed animals at 1,106 farms, including 1,014 Hanwoo cattle farms, 2 dairy cattle farms, 10 pig farms, 75 goat farms, and 5 deer farms.
In particular, under the policy that 'early vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease is the best preventive measure,' the county has promptly secured and supplied vaccines, and is making every effort to ensure all animals are vaccinated, both by public veterinarians and self-administration.
To prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, the county has mobilized 10 joint quarantine vehicles to carry out emergency disinfection measures at the entrances of cloven-hoofed animal farms, roads, and in three nearby areas?Seongjeon-myeon, Jakcheon-myeon, and Omcheon-myeon, which are close to Yeongam. Disinfection of major access roads is being conducted twice daily.
Governor Kang Jinwon emphasized, "The active cooperation of farms is essential to maintain our status as a foot-and-mouth disease-free area. Each farm must thoroughly conduct self-disinfection, restrict movement between farms, and ensure that all vaccinations are completed to protect our assets."
