National Library for the Disabled Seeks Publishers for Braille Label Book Production
Production Training Provided, Support for Purchasing 350 Copies of Selected Titles
Plans to Produce 60 Types and 21,000 Copies This Year
The National Library for the Disabled announced on the 19th that it is recruiting publishers to participate in the '2025 Braille Label Book Publishing Support Project' until the 31st.
Braille label books refer to books with transparent vinyl stickers embossed with Braille corresponding to the text on the paper book pages. This allows both visually impaired and non-disabled people to use the books together.
From 2022 to last year, the National Library for the Disabled distributed 44,000 copies of 120 types of braille label books to 1,428 institutions. This year, a total of 60 types and 21,000 copies will be produced and distributed to about 700 public libraries and special schools.
Publishers wishing to participate can fill out and submit the application form attached to the notice on the National Library for the Disabled website.
Selected publishers will receive training on producing braille label books, and support will be provided to purchase 350 copies per selected book title.
Hwang Geum-sook, director of the National Library for the Disabled, said, "Braille label books have great value as they can be widely used not only to improve literacy among visually impaired children but also for inclusive education and raising awareness about disabilities." She added, "We look forward to the active interest and participation of publishers."
