Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the morning of the 18th that it held the ‘2025 Alley-type Shopping District Designation Project and Major Business Briefing’ at the local ‘Wagle Wagle Center’ to strengthen the competitiveness of local small business owners facing management difficulties due to high inflation, high interest rates, and weakened consumer sentiment.

An ‘Alley-type Shopping District’ is an area designated by local governments targeting commercial districts that meet the density criteria prescribed by presidential decree, regardless of business type.
In particular, when selecting the area, various benefits and support measures are provided, such as registration and handling of Onnuri gift certificate affiliated stores, promotion and marketing support, and opportunities to participate in various public contest projects.
Currently, the Shinsan Market Village Shopping District and Garaebi Jungang-ro Shopping District are designated within the city, and the city plans to newly designate or expand five locations this year to accelerate the revitalization of the local commercial district.
At this briefing, executives and members of five local merchant associations attended, where the alley-type shopping district designation procedures, support projects and benefits, various policy briefings, and customized consulting for individual commercial districts were conducted, providing practical alternatives to local small business owners seeking ways to survive in the fierce economic environment.
Additionally, at the conclusion of the event, Mayor Kang Su-hyun, along with officials from the local economy department and executives and members of the merchant associations, reportedly promoted the ‘Gi [氣] Revitalization Campaign’ to stabilize people’s livelihoods and revive the local economy amid difficult economic conditions.
Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju emphasized, “Reviving the depressed alley commercial districts and restoring consumer sentiment are key to the recovery of the local economy,” and added, “We will continue to provide unwavering support so that small business owners can grow stably.”
