The Research and Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Special Zone Foundation) announced on the 18th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Veterans Welfare and Medical Service (hereinafter referred to as the Veterans Service) at the Special Zone Foundation's headquarters in Daejeon to mutually cooperate on "Deep Tech-based New Medical and Healthcare Technology Development and Testbed Operation."

According to the agreement, the Special Zone Foundation will be responsible for discovering and matching deep tech companies with demonstration needs within the special zones, linking demonstration and commercialization, and planning joint research. The Veterans Service will provide testbeds by discovering demand for new products and services at regional veterans hospitals, piloting product introductions, collecting feedback, and supporting joint research and development.
In particular, the fact that both organizations operate veterans hospitals and special zone headquarters in regions such as Daejeon, Daegu, Gwangju, and Busan is expected to serve as a driving force for establishing an organic cooperative system in the future.
In fact, before signing the MOU, the special zone headquarters and the Veterans Service conducted technology demonstrations between the Daegu Special Zone Headquarters and Daegu Veterans Hospital starting in October of last year.
For example, recently, the two organizations collaborated with medical staff at Daegu Veterans Hospital to promote technology demonstration of the "Micro Robot System for Vascular Intervention Procedures" developed by the advanced technology company I'm System Co., Ltd. within the special zone.
Additionally, technology demonstrations of "AI-based Senior Care Solution" by Infinix Co., Ltd. and "AI-based Health Management Service" by OneSoftDime Co., Ltd. are currently underway.
Going forward, the two organizations plan to expand demonstrations linking deep tech companies in 19 special zones nationwide with six veterans hospitals and to advance the collaborative support system.
Jung Hee-kwon, Chairman of the Special Zone Foundation, stated, "Technology demonstration is a crucial process for deep tech companies to successfully enter the market," and added, "We will use our cooperation with the Veterans Service as a stepping stone to enhance the demonstration support system that supports the growth of deep tech companies in the advanced medical and healthcare fields."
