Attendance at Bongseonsa Meditation Experience Center Groundbreaking Ceremony
Total Project Cost of 19.3 Billion KRW Invested
Scheduled for Completion in December 2026
Joo Gwang-deok, Mayor of Namyangju City, attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Meditation Experience Center hosted by Bongseonsa Temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism on the 18th, wishing for a safe completion and successful operation.

The event was attended by many citizens, including Mayor Joo Gwang-deok, key officials of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, head monks of major temples nationwide, the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, members of the National Assembly, the Mayor of Paju City, provincial and city council members, and the Director of the National Arboretum.
The groundbreaking ceremony proceeded in the order of △ Three Refuges and recitation of the Heart Sutra in Korean △ progress report △ congratulatory remarks △ greetings and congratulatory speeches, and the groundbreaking marked the official start of construction.
Hosang, the head monk of Bongseonsa Temple, said, “We thank everyone who made this event possible, and we will diligently carry out the Buddhist project so that our Bongseonsa Meditation Experience Center can be successfully completed.”
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok stated in his congratulatory speech, “I sincerely congratulate all 740,000 citizens of Namyangju on today’s groundbreaking ceremony, and I will provide more interest and support so that the Meditation Experience Center can bring peace of mind and happiness to the citizens of Namyangju and the people of the Republic of Korea, and furthermore, help K-Meditation to become globalized.”
Namyangju City actively supported the construction of the Meditation Experience Center to create a space for citizens’ mental stability and healing, and Bongseonsa Temple plans to expand meditation practice spaces and systematic meditation education and experience opportunities to establish Namyangju as a center of meditation and healing.
The Meditation Experience Center will have a total project cost of approximately 19.3 billion KRW, including national, provincial, and city funds, and is scheduled to be completed by December 2026.
