Jangsu County to Conduct Safety Inspections on Steep Slopes During Thawing Period Until the 3rd of Next Month

Inspection of 94 Sites
Preventing Accidents Such as Structural Deformation

Jangsu County in North Jeolla Province announced on the 18th that it will conduct safety inspections on 94 steep slopes managed by the county that are at high risk of falling rocks, collapse, and potential casualties during the thawing and rainy seasons until the 3rd of next month.

This inspection is being carried out to prevent accidents such as slope collapse, ground subsidence, and deformation of structures that may occur as the ground, frozen during winter, thaws due to rising temperatures, and to establish prompt preventive measures.

As a result of the safety inspection, minor issues will be addressed immediately on-site, while facilities requiring repair or reinforcement will undergo emergency measures followed by prompt administrative procedures such as detailed safety diagnoses. In addition, areas designated as collapse risk zones will be systematically managed through medium- and long-term maintenance projects.

In particular, during the steep slope safety management period for the thawing and rainy seasons, the county will maintain a situation management and reporting system with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as well as its own system to respond quickly to accidents such as falling rocks and collapses.

County Governor Choi Hunsik said, "We will proactively prevent safety accidents such as facility collapses that may occur due to weakened ground during the thawing season and create an environment where residents can feel safe," adding, "We will further strengthen safety measures and do our utmost to prevent accidents."
