Busan Gijang County to Support Heating and Cooling for Low-Income Households... Promoting Energy Efficiency Improvement Project

Enhancing Welfare for Energy-Vulnerable Groups
Susceptible to Climate Change such as Cold Waves and Heat Waves

Gijang-gun, Busan is implementing the 'Energy Efficiency Improvement Project for Low-Income Households' to enhance the welfare of energy-vulnerable groups who are susceptible to climate change, such as cold waves and heat waves.

This project is jointly promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Korea Energy Foundation, and Gijang-gun, and is divided into 'Cooling Project' and 'Heating Project'.

The 'Cooling Project' provides support for the installation of wall-mounted air conditioners worth an average of 720,000 KRW to 76 households, while the 'Heating Project' supports insulation work, window replacement, and replacement of old boilers worth an average of 2,430,000 KRW to 155 households.

Eligible recipients include households receiving National Basic Livelihood Security, near-poverty households, and households in the welfare blind spot.

However, households eligible for repair and maintenance benefits under Article 8 of the Housing Benefit Act, households residing in public institution-owned housing, and households residing in illegal buildings are excluded from support.

Applications can be submitted by visiting the local administrative welfare center. The application period for the 'Cooling Project' is until April 18, and for the 'Heating Project' it is open until the budget is exhausted.

After application, the Korea Energy Foundation will review the case, and a construction company designated by the foundation will visit the household to conduct an on-site inspection before the final selection of supported households is made.

Gijang-gun Mayor Jung Jongbok said, "Socially marginalized groups facing economic hardship often experience significant restrictions in energy use," and added, "We will prepare various support measures for energy-vulnerable groups who are susceptible to climate change."
