Store operated as a local village enterprise
Victim: "Reported to prevent further losses for cooperative members"
An unidentified woman stole goods worth several million won from an unmanned local specialty store in Wando County, South Jeolla Province. The store owner had suffered similar losses before and, suspecting the same person, has reported the incident to the police.
A CCTV capture video showing an unidentified woman entering an unmanned specialty product store in Wando, Jeonnam, and stealing items.
According to CCTV footage provided by the victim, Mr. A, on March 15 at around 7:24 p.m., a woman estimated to be in her 30s or 40s entered the store wearing a hoodie pulled tightly over her head.
The woman hesitated briefly, then began walking around the store, confidently filling a pre-prepared shopping bag with various displayed items.
This unusual behavior continued for more than five minutes after she entered the store.
Once her bag was full, the woman left the store for a short while and returned nonchalantly about ten minutes later, at 7:39 p.m.
She then began to fill her bag again, circling the store and taking nearly every item in sight, acting even more brazenly than before, without any sign of hesitation.
As in the first instance, she spent about five to six minutes collecting items before disappearing from the camera's view.
This store is a village enterprise (selected by South Jeolla Province) created by local farmers, fishers, and residents of Wando, mainly selling and promoting local specialty products. As a result, most of the store's displays consist of secondary processed foods made from local seafood and agricultural products.
It was confirmed that most of the stolen goods were focused on items such as gim (dried seaweed), gwipo (dried filefish), squid, loquat concentrate, and sweet potato chips. Some of the stolen items were also high-priced specialty gift sets.
The store estimates the preliminary damage at around 3.5 million won.
The store had also experienced a theft on March 6. After reviewing the CCTV footage, they believe the woman involved in both incidents appears to be the same person.
Currently, the store has submitted the CCTV footage of the woman's actions and a list of stolen items to the Wando police as of the 17th.
A representative of the victimized store stated, "Our store promotes and sells local specialty products produced by people working in fisheries and agriculture in the area. If it were just my loss, I might have let it go, but since this affects all cooperative members, I had no choice but to report it to the police. The fact that she wore her hoodie so deeply suggests this was a planned crime. Given the seriousness of the wrongdoing, I hope she faces legal consequences."
