Jangheung County Launches All-Out Effort to Maintain FMD-Free Status

Vaccinations to Be Completed by the 20th

Jangheung County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Sung) announced on the 17th that, following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) at a neighboring livestock farm, it convened an emergency countermeasure meeting on the 16th and is mobilizing all administrative resources to prevent the spread of FMD.

The county plans to complete the mass FMD vaccination, originally scheduled for April, ahead of schedule by the 20th. The vaccination targets all cloven-hoofed animals such as cattle and pigs, covering 1,679 farms and 68,400 animals. For cattle farms with fewer than 100 heads, vaccination support will be provided through public veterinarians, while farms with more than 100 heads will conduct the vaccination themselves.

At the emergency FMD countermeasure meeting held on the 16th, all possible preventive measures were discussed by sector, and it was decided to focus all efforts on disease control, including the emergency supply of 4 tons of disinfectant for farm-level quarantine.

After the mass vaccination is completed, the county plans to conduct monitoring and implement special management to ensure no animals are missed. To prevent FMD, the county will continue comprehensive disinfection of livestock facilities and cloven-hoofed animal farms using two county quarantine vehicles, four vehicles from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and eight vehicles from the Jangheung Livestock Cooperative joint quarantine team.

Governor Kim Sung stated, "As FMD has occurred in adjacent cities and counties, we will do our utmost to maintain the county's FMD-free status by cooperating with livestock farms and strengthening farm-level quarantine activities."
