Governor Kim Yeongrok Requests Emergency Special Grant for FMD Quarantine from Government

Jeonnam Governor Youngrok Kim is meeting with Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Minister Miryung Song in the provincial government reception room on the 17th to request special treasury support for foot-and-mouth disease prevention. Provided by Jeonnam Province

Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, held a meeting with Song Miryung, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, on the 17th and requested support for special grants for emergency quarantine measures such as blocking horizontal transmission to quickly end the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.

Governor Kim said, "Jeollanam-do has done its utmost to maintain its status as the only foot-and-mouth disease-free area on the mainland, but it is regrettable that the first case occurred in Yeongam-gun on the 13th, followed by another case in Muan."

He added, "To prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, we are making every effort in quarantine measures such as managing quarantine zones, stopping movement, emergency vaccinations, and intensive disinfection. Going forward, we will cooperate with the government to focus on thorough data management through epidemiological investigations and follow-up measures to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and achieve early stabilization."

At the same time, he requested 2.1 billion won in special grants for early quarantine, including disinfectants for foot-and-mouth disease vaccination and stress relievers for vaccinated livestock.

Governor Kim also raised other pending issues, such as establishing a full-cycle standardization hub for natural material resources, subsidizing the price of inorganic fertilizers, and supporting the cost difference caused by feed price increases for Hanwoo farmers.

Minister Song replied, "Foot-and-mouth disease is a fast-spreading viral livestock disease, so we must prevent its spread through thorough initial measures. We will actively review government-level support measures for the proposals from Jeollanam-do."
