The police announced on the 17th that they will reapply for arrest warrants for Kim Seong-hoon, Deputy Chief of the Presidential Security Service, and Lee Kwang-woo, Chief of the Security Headquarters.
Kim Sang-hoon, Deputy Director of the Presidential Security Service, appeared as a witness at the first hearing of the "Special Committee for the National Assembly Investigation into the Truth of the December 3 Emergency Martial Law Incident" held at the National Assembly on the 22nd, responding to Chairman Ahn Kyu-baek's request for cooperation in the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office's search and seizure of the presidential residence. An official from the Police Agency's Special Investigation Unit stated at a regular press briefing that "since the warrants were dismissed three times, we conducted supplementary investigations and meticulously organized the documents," adding, "we also held necessary consultations with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO)."
They are accused of obstructing the execution of an arrest warrant against President Yoon Seok-yeol, making unjust personnel decisions, and ordering the deletion of records related to burner phones (charges of obstruction of special official duties and abuse of authority).
Prosecutors had previously dismissed the police's arrest warrant applications or requested supplementary investigations. However, on the 6th, the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office's warrant review committee expressed the opinion that it was appropriate to request arrest warrants for Deputy Chief Kim and Chief Lee.
