Carbon Emissions Cut by 6 Tons
Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) announced on the 17th that the 26th Yangpyeong Danwol Gorosoe Festival, held from the 15th to the 16th at Danwol-myeon Leisure Sports Park, achieved a significant reduction in waste generation by using reusable containers for all food sales.

During the festival, no disposable plastics, styrofoam, or wooden chopsticks were used at all. A total of 130,000 reusable containers were utilized, resulting in an impressive reduction of approximately 6 tons of carbon emissions. Furthermore, according to the confirmation by the local sanitation workers, the amount of waste generated at the festival site was reduced by more than 90%, proving that the introduction of reusable containers led to a tangible environmental improvement.
The use of reusable containers goes beyond merely replacing disposable items; it has become an essential element for sustainable festivals. This aligns with the slogan “People and Nature, Happy Yangpyeong,” reflecting an eco-friendly policy commitment that human life and the natural environment can positively influence each other.
Jeon Jin-seon, Governor of Yangpyeong-gun, stated, “The use of reusable containers made the festival venue shine even more. We will continue to provide unwavering support to create a clean and charming Yangpyeong,” adding, “From now on, all festivals and events hosted by the county will continue to be eco-friendly events without disposable products.”
Meanwhile, Yangpyeong-gun plans to introduce reusable containers at various upcoming events such as the Yangpyeong Sansuyu Hanwoo Festival, Galsan Nuribom Festival, and Yangpyeong Yongmunsan Wild Vegetable Festival. Additionally, the county intends to strengthen the message of environmental protection at important events that celebrate the region’s nature and culture, which is expected to contribute to creating sustainable festivals enjoyed by both residents and tourists.
