Mudeungsan Landslide Area: 70% of Vegetation Has Recovered

Restoration Rate Exceeds 98% Near Chungjangsa and Jeungsimsa

Seventy percent of the vegetation that was exposed due to landslides in Mudeungsan has been restored.

According to the "2024 National Park Landslide Site Status Survey" announced by the National Park Research Institute on the 17th, vegetation restoration has been carried out at three landslide-damaged sites within Mudeungsan National Park.

The surveyed sites include areas near the Mudeungsan Ecological Exploration Center, Jeungsimsa, and Chungjangsa, where landslides occurred due to heavy rainfall in 2020. The total affected area was 18,614 square meters, of which 12,933 square meters (69.4%) have been restored.

The restoration rate reached 98.4% near Jeungsimsa and 100% near Chungjangsa. In the area near the Ecological Exploration Center, which suffered the most severe landslide damage, the restoration rate was found to be 68.8% as the bare land area has recently increased.

Mudeungsan National Park has been carrying out restoration using horizontal terraced "step-cutting" methods, retaining walls, and drainage facility installations. The National Park Research Institute evaluated that "the restoration status of all sites is good." An official from Mudeungsan National Park Service said, "We will continue to strive for nature conservation through ongoing monitoring."
