Gochang County Expands 'AI-IoT-Based' Remote Health Management

Eliminating Healthcare Blind Spots

Gochang-gun in Jeonbuk is significantly expanding its 'AI-IoT-based Remote Health Management' to address healthcare blind spots in medically underserved areas.

According to the Gochang-gun Public Health Center on the 17th, the AI-IoT-based health management project provides individualized, remote health management services for six months. This is done by utilizing the 'Oneul Health' smartphone app (APP) and smart devices (wrist activity tracker, scale, blood pressure monitor, blood glucose meter), with health experts from the public health center supporting each participant.

To analyze the effectiveness of the project, the county conducted pre- and post-health screenings for 169 participants, focusing on four areas: ▲physical activity ▲dietary habits ▲chronic disease management ▲frailty assessment.

As a result, the number of people who regularly measured their blood pressure increased sixfold (from 15 to 92), and those who regularly measured their blood glucose increased 2.3 times (from 18 to 42). The number of days participants engaged in strength training rose by two days per week, from 1.8 to 3.8 days, and dietary practice scores increased by 0.9 points, from 7.8 to 8.7.

Additionally, the improvement rate in frailty assessment (three items) was 95.1%, and the improvement rate in grip strength assessment was 69.8%, indicating significant positive effects as residents actively participated in the health improvement program.

Accordingly, the county will expand the number of project participants from 170 to 200 this year. Pre-screening has been underway since March, and the remote health management service will be provided for about six months until September. In addition, self-help groups aimed at strengthening health management capabilities and preventing isolation among chronic disease patients will be held twice a month.

Yu Byungsoo, head of the Gochang-gun Public Health Center, said, "By utilizing AI technology, we expect to overcome time and space constraints, address healthcare blind spots, and promote healthy lifestyles, thereby contributing to reducing health disparities. We will continue to expand the project in the future."
