Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Gyeongnam Province, and Hamyang County Conduct Joint Safety Inspection of Steep Slopes

Cracks, Subsidence, Erosion, Bulging, and Groundwater Seepage on the Slope

Hamyang County in Gyeongnam announced on the 17th that Hwang Kiyeon, Director of the Prevention Policy Bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, visited the steep slope area in Gojeong District, Hyucheon-myeon, to conduct a safety inspection.

This inspection focused on vulnerable facilities to prevent ground weakening and related safety accidents that may occur as the frozen surface thaws during the thawing season. A total of 15 participants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Gyeongsangnam-do, Hamyang County, and private experts took part in the inspection.

The inspection focused on identifying risk factors such as falling rocks and structural cracks, checking for abnormalities in slope facilities (drainage, rockfall prevention, reinforcement, and surface protection facilities), and confirming the condition of the slope (cracks, subsidence, erosion, bulging, groundwater seepage, etc.).

In particular, the Gojeong District in Hyucheon-myeon is managed as a steep slope with a collapse risk classified as "Grade E." The county plans to conduct continuous safety inspections, make immediate repairs for minor issues, and, in the case of high risk of collapse or debris flow, prioritize resident evacuation followed by emergency repairs and reinforcement.

Baek Samjong, Deputy County Governor, who participated in the joint inspection, stated, "Preemptive measures are the most important aspect of disaster prevention, but it is difficult to maintain collapse-prone areas due to poor local finances," adding, "Government support and securing national funds are urgently needed."
