Kim Du-kwan Proposes Joint Press Conference of Ruling and Opposition Leaders on 'Yoon Impeachment Trial Acceptance'

Kim Du-kwan, a figure from the anti-Lee Jae-myung faction, proposed a joint press conference by the ruling and opposition party leaders to accept the Constitutional Court's impeachment ruling of President Yoon Suk-yeol.

On the 16th, Kim posted on his Facebook under this title, stating, "The political sphere must step up to manage the aftermath of the Constitutional Court's impeachment ruling and present a path toward national unity."

Kim said, "Ahead of the impeachment trial of President Yoon, the public is divided over support and opposition to the impeachment, expressing anger in the streets," adding, "If this situation continues, regardless of the Constitutional Court's decision, it will be difficult to reconcile South Korea."

He expressed concern, saying, "I have consistently stated that we are currently in a state of civil war and that national unity is the spirit of the times," and "I worry about the uncertain future of South Korea after the impeachment ruling, seeing the two major parties standing with the people engaged in street protests."

Kim analyzed, "Those advocating for the acceptance of impeachment fear that if the Constitutional Court dismisses it, South Korea's future will be damaged, while those arguing for dismissal say they cannot accept even if Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, is elected in the early presidential election following removal."

He continued, "Both Lee and Kwon Young-se, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, have personally expressed their willingness to accept the ruling," and insisted, "The leadership of both parties should take a step further and hold a joint press conference to accept the ruling."

He added, "I urge this to be implemented as soon as possible for the country and the people," emphasizing, "Only this can unite the people as one."
