Prosecutors: "Calls claiming to be from drug investigators are voice phishing"

Voice Phishing Scams Targeting Overseas Koreans on the Rise
Supreme Prosecutors' Office Urges Verification Through 'Jjin Center'

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office recently warned that voice phishing scams impersonating the "Supreme Prosecutors' Office Narcotics Division Prosecutor" are rampant, targeting overseas Koreans living in the United States, Japan, and other countries by deceiving them into believing they are involved in drug transactions and demanding money.

On the 16th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office stated, "The prosecution never demands money under the pretext of investigating a case," and added, "The Supreme Prosecutors' Office Narcotics Division is not a department that directly investigates drug crimes, so it does not call related parties regarding specific cases."

They continued, "If you receive a call impersonating the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Narcotics Division or demanding money related to drug cases, please first verify whether it is a voice phishing crime through the Supreme Prosecutors' Office 'Jjin Center.'"

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office emphasized, "We are making efforts to prevent voice phishing crimes that impersonate the prosecution and other government agencies, causing serious harm to citizens, and we will promptly take action by monitoring crime trends."
