Gymnasium, Library, and Meeting Room Established... An Open Cultural Space for All
Trial Operation to Address Shortcomings... Official Opening Planned for April
The 'Guryongpo Haepalang Cultural Rest Area', located in the Homiro area of Guryongpo-eup, Nam-gu, Pohang, will begin its trial operation from the 17th.
The 'Guryongpo Haepalang Cultural Rest Area' was completed in December last year as part of the Guryongpo Area General Agricultural and Fishing Village Development Project, with a total project cost of 5.2 billion KRW (3.6 billion from the national government and 1.6 billion from the city). The facility is a two-story building with a total floor area of 976.51 square meters.
The first floor of the rest area features a multipurpose gymnasium (auditorium) and a library, while the second floor includes a reading room and a meeting room. The facility aims to enhance the vitality and health of local residents and provide a cultural welfare space for emotional enrichment.
Additionally, the rooftop garden on the second floor is designed to offer a panoramic view of Guryongpo, a major tourist destination in Pohang. The space will be utilized in various ways to meet the lifestyle service needs of local residents and provide attractions for tourists.
The library houses 6,000 books, including new titles, and the multipurpose gymnasium is equipped for table tennis, badminton, and volleyball. It is expected to serve as a space for communication and interaction among local residents.
During the trial operation period, the facility will be open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (closed on weekends), and the gymnasium can be used free of charge.
After the trial operation of various facilities and services, including book lending, returns, and reading, any shortcomings will be addressed before the official opening in April.
Oh Younghwan, Head of the Fishing Village Vitality Division, said, "We expect that the operation of the Guryongpo Haepalang Cultural Rest Area will provide a higher level of cultural and welfare services to residents near Guryongpo," and added, "We will continue to develop policies in various ways to improve the quality of life for fishing village residents and revitalize fishing communities."
