Borrow Hope Books at 8 Neighborhood Bookstores with Your Library Card
All Regular Members of Geumcheon-gu Public Library Can Borrow 2 Books per Month for 14 Days
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it is operating the ‘Hope Book Direct Loan’ service, which allows residents to borrow books they want to read directly from neighborhood bookstores.
The ‘Hope Book Direct Loan’ service enables users to request desired books on the library website if the books are not available in the library. Then, they can borrow and return new books at nearby neighborhood bookstores.
The available neighborhood bookstores are ▲Garam Plaza (Siheung 1-dong) ▲Daeil Bookstore (Doksan 3-dong) ▲Dongil Plaza (Siheung 2-dong) ▲Byclogy (Doksan 1-dong) ▲Bando Bookstore (Siheung 4-dong) ▲Bondong Bookstore (Siheung 1-dong) ▲Seon Seojeok (Doksan 4-dong) ▲Homtong (Siheung 1-dong), totaling eight locations.
Any regular member of the Geumcheon-gu Public Library can use the service, and up to two books can be borrowed for 14 days per month.
Users can access the ‘Neighborhood Bookstore Direct Loan’ section on the Geumcheon-gu Public Library website, select the bookstore they want to visit, and request the desired books. Once they receive an approval notification, they can visit the designated bookstore with their membership card to borrow the requested books. Returns must also be made to the bookstore where the books were borrowed. However, books that are held in multiple copies or planned to be held by the public library, professional books, foreign original books, exam preparation books, workbooks, and study guides cannot be borrowed.
Last year, over 1,700 residents used the Hope Book Direct Loan service to borrow more than 5,000 books from neighborhood bookstores.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We hope this will help local bookstores struggling due to increased reading rates and decreased book purchases by residents. We will support efforts to satisfy diverse reading needs of residents and spread a culture of reading in the community.”
The district is promoting the construction of a central library with a total floor area of 2,900㎡ on the site of the Kia Motors plant, aiming for completion in 2028. Additionally, ‘Smart Libraries’ are operated at Geumcheon-gu Office Station, Doksan Station, and Gasan Digital Complex Station, along with various reading culture programs.
