"Proper Response Hindered by Leadership Vacuum Under Yoon"
On the 15th, the People Power Party expressed concern over the United States adding South Korea to the 'sensitive countries list' last January and announced that it would fully cooperate with the government in response.
On the same day, Kim Dae-sik, the chief floor spokesperson, stated in a commentary that he "expresses deep concern as the U.S. measure could undermine the trust in the South Korea-U.S. alliance," adding, "This measure raises significant concerns that unnecessary restrictions may arise not only in nuclear cooperation but also in future strategic technology cooperation such as artificial intelligence (AI)."
Kim, the chief floor spokesperson, emphasized, "Administrative measures taken without strategic judgment should not cause confusion in South Korea-U.S. cooperation," and urged, "The government must devote all efforts to diplomatic responses."
He also pointed out, "Although we face the challenge of resolving trade and diplomatic issues amid the global economic crisis and rapidly changing international situation, appropriate diplomatic responses have not been made due to a leadership vacuum caused by the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol."
He continued, "Prime Minister Han Duck-soo is a trade expert who plays an important role in South Korea-U.S. trade issues, but his duties have been suspended due to the Democratic Party's impeachment motion, delaying responses to economic and trade issues," and asserted, "The Democratic Party must take responsibility for the national confusion caused by the politically motivated impeachment and refrain from further excessive impeachment motions."
