Yeongju City Enters Acting Mayor System, Focuses on Stable Administration

Doing Our Best to Ensure Unwavering City Administration Without Any Gaps

Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province has entered an acting mayor system led by Vice Mayor Lee Jaehoon as of the 13th.

The city announced that, as the mayor of Yeongju was disqualified by a Supreme Court ruling on this day, Vice Mayor Lee Jaehoon will serve as acting mayor and lead city administration until a new mayor is elected and begins their term.

According to Article 124 of the Local Autonomy Act, the vice mayor is to act as the head of the local government in the event of a vacancy.

Accordingly, Vice Mayor Lee Jaehoon will oversee all duties belonging to the authority of the local government head as stipulated by law, ordinances, and regulations.

On this day, Acting Mayor Lee Jaehoon held an emergency expanded executive meeting on current city issues, urging, "No matter the circumstances, fulfill your responsibilities without wavering," and instructed officials to proactively check for citizen inconveniences and respond swiftly to dispel concerns about any administrative vacuum.

He continued, "Now, more than ever, continuity and stability in city administration are crucial, and I will prioritize administration that citizens can truly feel."

In particular, internally, the plan is to establish discipline among public officials and focus all administrative capabilities on ensuring that key issues and policies proceed without disruption. The city also intends to reorganize its systems to minimize citizen inconvenience and prevent any administrative gaps.

On this day, Acting Mayor Lee issued a statement titled "A Message to the Citizens of Yeongju," initiating efforts to stabilize city administration.

Through the statement, Acting Mayor Lee said, "I believe citizens may be concerned about this sudden change," and added, "All public officials of Yeongju, including myself, will do our utmost in our respective positions to overcome this difficulty," asking for the continued trust and support of Yeongju citizens.

Lee Jaehoon began his public service career in Pohang City in 1996 and has served as Director of Forest Industry and Tourism, Director of Environmental Policy, and Director of Economic Policy and Labor in North Gyeongsang Province before being appointed Vice Mayor of Yeongju City in July 2024.
