"Coordinating Business Leaders Attending the China Development Forum"
Chinese President Xi Jinping is reportedly planning to hold a meeting with global company chief executive officers (CEOs) at the end of this month, the UK Financial Times (FT) reported on the 14th.
FT cited multiple sources saying that President Xi plans to meet with CEOs attending the China Development Forum (CDF) held in Beijing on the 23rd and 24th. One source stated that the meeting is scheduled for the 28th. Another official said that about 20 overseas company CEOs are expected to attend.
However, in order for the CEOs to meet with President Xi, they must stay in Beijing for several days after the forum ends, so the list of attendees is still being coordinated. Last year, President Xi also met with about 20 CEOs and other figures from the US economic and academic sectors after the China Development Forum concluded.
One official said that businesspeople from various countries, including the UK and Europe, are expected to attend this year's meeting.
This year’s China Development Forum invitation list reportedly includes 72 people such as Blackstone founder Stephen Schwarzman, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, global insurer Chubb CEO Evan Greenberg, and Saudi Aramco CEO Amin Nasser.
The China Development Forum was established in 2000 and is held annually to invite major global business figures to discuss economic issues and seek investment opportunities.
This year’s forum is taking place amid difficulties in the Chinese economy, including a real estate crisis, weakened consumer sentiment, and a decline in foreign investment.
In particular, FT analyzed that China is desperately seeking the support of global companies that have heavily invested in China in response to former President Trump’s tariff policies.
