Weather Information Company Predicts Cherry Blossom Blooming Dates
KMA Gives Up on Forecasting
As the last cold snap of the season intensifies this weekend, forecasts suggest that this year's cherry blossom blooming period will be up to 8 days earlier than usual. The cherry blossoms in Seoul are expected to bloom on April 1st.
Citizens visiting the Yeouiseo-ro area in Seoul, where cherry blossoms are in full bloom, are enjoying the spring atmosphere.
The weather information company 'Weatheri' predicts that cherry blossoms will first bloom on Jeju Island on the 22nd. Following that, the blossoms are expected to appear in Busan on March 23rd, Daegu on March 24th, Gwangju on March 27th, and Daejeon on March 29th. As the floral energy gradually rises, Seoul is expected to see cherry blossoms on April 1st, Suwon on April 3rd, and Incheon on April 4th.
The full bloom period is anticipated to occur about 7 days after the initial blooming. In Seoul, full bloom is expected on April 8th; in Busan on March 30th; in Gwangju on April 3rd; in Daegu on April 1st; and in Gangneung on April 6th, marking the peak of cherry blossoms.
There are reportedly over 80 spring flower festivals held nationwide, with more than 30 dedicated solely to cherry blossoms. The Seoul Seokchon Lake Cherry Blossom Festival will take place from April 2nd to 6th. The Gimpo Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled for April 5th to 6th. Yangjaecheon and Anyangcheon are also famous for their cherry blossoms. The embankment path along Anyangcheon is a notable spot where 1,047 king cherry trees stand side by side along a 7 km long embankment road. Last year, after the cherry blossoms bloomed, a nighttime lighting display featuring seven colors was operated.
The Daegu E-World Blossom Picnic will continue from the 15th until April 6th, and the Gyeongju Daereungwon Stone Wall Cherry Blossom Festival will be held from March 29th to 31st. The Changwon Jinhae Gunhangje Festival runs from March 29th to April 6th, and the Yangsan Mulgeum Cherry Blossom Festival will take place from March 29th to 30th. The Hadong Hwagae Market Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled for March 28th to 30th.
However, due to unpredictable weather changes making it difficult to forecast blooming periods, local governments are facing increasing challenges. In recent years, there have been frequent cases where flowers did not bloom during the festival period or reached full bloom before the festival, resulting in spring flower festivals without flowers.
