Operation of Two Free Shuttle Buses for Transportation-Vulnerable Groups Begins in April
Service Increases from 5 to 8 Trips per Day
First Bus Departs at 8:20 a.m., Last at 4:00 p.m. from Gwangjin-gu Office
Two New Stops Added: Gwangjin Youth Training Center and Achasan Ecological Park, Totaling 37 Bus Stops
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will add one more free shuttle bus called the ‘Donghaeng Bus’ for transportation-vulnerable groups starting in April.
The Donghaeng Bus is a free transportation service provided for seniors, people with disabilities, pregnant women, and other transportation-vulnerable groups who experience difficulties moving around the area. Last year, an average of 67.2 residents used the service daily, with a total of over 15,000 users, and satisfaction levels were high.
With the increase to two Donghaeng Buses, waiting times have been cut in half. The previous dispatch interval of over two hours has been shortened to about one hour. The number of trips has also increased from 5 to 8. Starting from Gwangjin-gu Office, the first bus departs at 8:20 a.m., and the last bus leaves at 4:00 p.m.
The route now includes two additional stops?▲Gwangjin Youth Training Center (Exit 2 of Gwangnaru Station) and ▲Achasan Ecological Park (Forest Library)?making a total of 37 bus stops, up from the original 35.
Efforts are also being made to improve facilities. A real-time location tracking system has been introduced to enhance user convenience. Bus stops, signboards, and boarding areas will also be continuously maintained.
An elderly user of the Donghaeng Bus said, “I only use it occasionally when the timing is right. If I missed the bus before, I had to wait two hours, but now that two buses are operating, I think I will use it much more often,” expressing her expectations.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We increased the number of Donghaeng Buses to provide convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups and encourage their participation in social activities. We hope many people will use the service,” adding, “We will continue to thoroughly manage free bus operations and facility maintenance so that residents can use them without inconvenience.”
