The Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province Installation Public-Private Joint Promotion Committee's Resident Cooperation Subcommittee (Chairman Kim Gyubong) announced on the 14th that on the 13th, they held a forum for civic groups in the central northern Gyeonggi region at the Gyeonggi Public Interest Activity Support Center located in Uijeongbu City to discuss the establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province.

The Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province Installation Public-Private Joint Promotion Committee's Resident Cooperation Subcommittee held a forum on the 13th at the Gyeonggi Public Interest Activity Support Center in Uijeongbu City with civil society organizations from the northern and central northern Gyeonggi regions to discuss the establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province. The forums, held by region to spread consensus on the establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province, were held for the third time in the central northern Gyeonggi region, following the northeastern Gyeonggi area (Guri, Namyangju) and the northwestern Gyeonggi area (Goyang, Paju). This forum was attended by civic groups from Uijeongbu, Yangju, Dongducheon, Pocheon, and Yeoncheon, social economy enterprises, and members of the Resident Cooperation Subcommittee of the Public-Private Joint Promotion Committee.

During the keynote presentations, Lee Jeonghun, Senior Researcher at the Gyeonggi Research Institute's Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province Research Center, spoke about "The Vision and Tasks of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province." Lim Jinhong, CEO of Urban Platform Policy Sympathy, presented on "Special Self-Governing Provinces and Urban Equality," and Yang Honggwan, Co-Representative of the Promotion Committee, spoke about the "Promotion Plan of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province Pan-Resident Promotion Committee."

In the comprehensive discussion, Ahn Changhee served as the moderator, and designated discussants included Hwang Gisuk, Co-Representative of the Uijeongbu Civic Society Solidarity, Shim Dongyong, Director of the Dongducheon Natural Energy Cooperative, and Kim Youngmo, Co-Representative of the Pocheon Civic Society Solidarity, who shared and communicated their opinions on the promotion of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province.

Co-Representative Hwang Gisuk stated, "I hope the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province will serve as an opportunity to move beyond simple economic development toward a just and equal society."

Director Shim Dongyong emphasized, "Dongducheon City must transition from a city of security sacrifices to a city of peace, tourism, and education."

Co-Representative Kim Youngmo spoke about "Promoting the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province with degrowth, pacifism, decentralization, and autonomy together."

Kim Gyubong, Subcommittee Chairman of the Resident Cooperation Subcommittee of the Public-Private Joint Promotion Committee, said, "It was a meaningful time to successfully complete three forums thanks to the participation and interest of local civic groups."

Jo Jangseok, Head of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province Promotion Team, said, "I hope that through the forums held so far, a local consensus for the establishment of the special self-governing province has spread in the community," and added, "We will continue to have opportunities to communicate with residents in the future."
