Preventing Environmental Pollution in Rural Areas

Imsil County, North Jeolla Province, announced on the 14th that it will operate an 'Intensive Collection Period for Agricultural Waste' from the 17th until the 30th of next month.

The county explained that with the start of the farming season, when a large amount of agricultural waste is generated, the purpose of this intensive collection period is to regularly collect recyclable agricultural waste in advance to prevent environmental pollution in rural areas and to ensure that this year's farming activities begin without disruption.

For the smooth collection of recyclable agricultural waste vinyl, farmers are required to remove soil and foreign substances from the waste vinyl generated in the fields, place it at a designated location such as a village-level joint collection station or a site accessible by collection vehicles, and then request collection from the county office, town or township offices, or private collectors.

The collected agricultural waste vinyl will be delivered to the Namwon Collection Center of the Korea Environment Corporation for recycling. The incoming waste vinyl will be graded from A to C according to the level of foreign matter contained, and a collection compensation of 100 to 140 KRW per kilogram will be paid depending on the grade.

Containers for waste pesticides can be collected individually or at the village level and taken directly to the Namwon Collection Center of the Korea Environment Corporation for disposal, with a collection compensation of 80 to 100 KRW per container.

During the intensive collection period, towns and townships will inspect 59 joint collection stations to ensure proper collection of waste vinyl and other agricultural waste, conduct their own inspections, and provide residents with information on proper disposal methods and the collection compensation system.

County Governor Sim Min said, "During this intensive collection period, we will strive to create a clean rural environment through systematic collection and processing of agricultural waste," and added, "We ask for active cooperation from residents to ensure that agricultural waste stored at joint collection stations and in villages can be collected smoothly."
