The Party for National Innovation: "Prosecutors Must Apologize to History and the People Through Immediate Appeal"

Press Conference in Front of Seoul High Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul
"Shim Woo-jung and Prosecution Leadership Are Deluded by Obsession with Preserving the Organization"

On the 14th, the Joguk Innovation Party called on the prosecution to "apologize to history and the people immediately through an urgent appeal against the court's cancellation of Yoon Seok-yeol's detention."

Joguk Innovation Party lawmakers said in front of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office building in Seocho-gu, Seoul, that morning, "The prosecution should realize that they are public servants of the people, not subordinates of Yoon Seok-yeol, even now."

The Innovation Party stated, "Betraying the people, we cannot help but feel deep lament and anger at Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung's shamelessness in legally facilitating the escape of Yoon Seok-yeol, the ringleader of the rebellion," adding, "Cheon Dae-yeop, head of the Court Administration Office, appeared before the National Assembly and expressed the position that 'it is necessary to receive a higher court's judgment through an immediate appeal against the court's decision to cancel Yoon Seok-yeol's detention,' but Shim Woo-jung's Supreme Prosecutors' Office has rejected the opportunity to correct the previous decision's error and remains immovable."

They further pointed out, "The criteria for calculating detention periods, which have been observed equally for all defendants for a remarkable 71 years since the enactment of the Criminal Procedure Act, have been overturned in an extremely arbitrary and customized manner for one person?the individual accused of rebellion, who was appointed Prosecutor General by a president from the prosecution."

The Innovation Party said, "Internal opposition within the investigation team was nothing more than a breeze in a teacup. We despair once again at the fact that there are no righteous people among the approximately 2,300 prosecutors working in the prosecution," adding, "There is no correct answer other than the complete dismantling of the prosecution. After dismantling, it must be reborn as a prosecution service for the people, a public prosecution office."

They also raised their voices, saying, "Shim Woo-jung and the prosecution leadership are deluded that their meager job security depends on Yoon Seok-yeol's return, regardless of whether the country collapses, and that they can preserve the already monstrous prosecution organization intact."

They continued, "Yoon Seok-yeol is the ringleader of the rebellion, a crime punishable only by death or life imprisonment," and argued, "Maintaining Yoon Seok-yeol's detention is an essential condition for the strict punishment of the ringleader of the rebellion."
