Yang Bunam: "Limiting Non-Disclosure Surveys Like Myung Taegyun Style"

Representative Proposal of the "Public Official Election Act Amendment"

Yang Bunam: "Limiting Non-Disclosure Surveys Like Myung Taegyun Style" Yang Bunam, Member of the National Assembly.

The so-called "Myung Taegyun-style" undisclosed election poll manipulation method, which involved fabricating unpublished election polls in favor of certain politicians, is expected to disappear in the future.

Yang Bunam, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Gwangju Seo-gu Eul), announced on the 14th that he had proposed a revision to the Public Official Election Act. The revision aims to prevent polling agencies from intentionally avoiding the reporting requirement by colluding with media outlets.

The amendment removes media outlets from the list of entities exempt from reporting election-related polls. It also stipulates that, even if an undisclosed election poll is conducted with a media outlet, the contents of the survey and other matters prescribed by the rules of the National Election Commission must be reported in writing to the Poll Deliberation Committee of the National Election Commission at least two days before the poll begins.

Yang explained, "Even if the results are not published or reported, it is essential to ensure the appropriateness of sample extraction in election-related polls," adding, "This bill is intended to prevent risks that could undermine the fairness of elections."
