On the 13th (local time), at TPC Sawgrass (par 72, 7,256 yards) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA, during the first round of the PGA Tour's fifth major tournament, The Players Championship (total prize money $25 million), he shot 2-under-par 70. He is tied for 31st place. He made 5 birdies and 3 bogeys. After exchanging 3 birdies and 3 bogeys over 16 holes, struggling to lower his score, he showed resilience by making consecutive birdies on the 17th and 18th holes.


Lucas Glover and J.J. Spaun (both USA), and Camilo Villegas (Colombia) topped the leaderboard at 6-under-par 66. World No. 2 Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), Min Woo Lee (Australia), and Billy Horschel (USA) are tied for 4th place at 5-under-par 67, just one stroke behind. Defending champion and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA) is tied for 20th at 3-under-par 69.


For Korea, 2017 champion Kim Si-woo is tied for 47th at 1-under-par 71, An Byeong-hun is tied for 83rd at 1-over-par 73, Im Sung-jae is tied for 116th at 4-over-par 76, and Lee Kyung-hoon is tied for 124th at 5-over-par 77. Some players were unable to finish their rounds due to sunset.
