Donated 5 Million Won to Cheongyang County Social Welfare Council
Elderly Man Living Alone Shares His Final Savings Before Passing Away
The community in Cheongyang-gun, South Chungcheong Province, has been moved by the story of an elderly man living alone who, just three days before his passing, donated his entire remaining savings of 5 million won.
According to Cheongyang-gun, the late Choi Chunsun (aged 73) made his final donation on the 6th, handing over 5 million won to the Cheongyang County Social Welfare Council. He passed away two days later, on the 8th.
As a recipient of basic livelihood support, Choi had painstakingly saved the money from his basic pension. Leaving behind his savings, he said, "It may not be a large sum, but I hope it can bring a small hope to neighbors in need." Having lost contact with his family and hospitalized alone with pneumonia, he expressed gratitude and generosity even at the end of his life.
The story of the late Choi Chunsun, who practiced sharing until his final moments despite a lonely battle with illness, has deeply resonated with society.
Min Geungi, president of the Cheongyang County Social Welfare Council, expressed deep condolences, saying, "We will honor the late Mr. Choi's wish for warm sharing until the very end and use the precious donation meaningfully where it is most needed."
