Effective Policies Needed for Environmental Protection and Budget Savings
On the 13th, Choo Eunhee, a proportional representative of the Democratic Party at the Gumi City Council in North Gyeongsang Province, pointed out during a five-minute free speech at the 285th temporary session's first plenary meeting that single-use promotional items used at various festivals and events are causing environmental pollution and leading to budget waste.
Choo emphasized, "Most promotional items become waste once the event is over," and added, "The problem is especially serious at events that promote carbon neutrality, where disposable T-shirts and slogan towels are still being used indiscriminately."
As alternatives, she suggested: ▲ producing promotional items with designs that can be used in daily life ▲ utilizing upcycled products and eco-friendly materials ▲ expanding the use of paper-based promotional materials.
She also presented a paper slogan she made herself, explaining, "We can expect both environmental protection and budget savings at the same time."
Choo urged, "Small actions come together to create a sustainable future," and called on Gumi City to strengthen eco-friendly policies across all departments and to come up with effective alternatives."
