Kyungil University (President Jung Hyuntae) held the inauguration ceremony for the KIU Sports Jiu-Jitsu Team under the KIU Sports Division on the 12th at the university’s International Conference Hall.
The ceremony was attended by President Jung Hyuntae, Chae Inmuk, Secretary General of the Korea Jiu-Jitsu Association, Lee Donggi, Director General, executives from the Daegu Jiu-Jitsu Association, student athletes, and related officials. The event proceeded with congratulatory speeches from guests, an encouragement address by the president, introductions of coaches and student athletes, and the presentation of the team flag.
The Kyungil University Jiu-Jitsu Team, established as a professional sports team, consists of 23 athletes and is led by Head Coach Jung Jindong, a former director of the Daegu Jiu-Jitsu Association.
President Jung Hyuntae of Kyungil University stated, "Kyungil University operates sports teams in nine disciplines including soccer, baseball, and swimming, bringing new vitality and innovation to the university sports scene. Through the establishment of the Jiu-Jitsu Team, we will strive to expand the base of Jiu-Jitsu, improve athletic performance, and foster talented individuals."
Last year, Kyungil University established a Jiu-Jitsu track within the Department of Sports Convergence to nurture sports convergence talents. Within the 'SMART Sports College', a dedicated sports college, the university has opened seven departments, including the Department of Sports Convergence and the Department of Fitness Industry.
