Pet Plants: Care Becomes Art in Daily Life
Experiencing a New Pet Plant Culture Combined with Art
Kim Dong-geun, Mayor of Uijeongbu City, engaged in a conversation with CEO Won Dong-cheol at the pet plant studio ‘Odigi Plant’ located in Nokyang-dong on the 12th as part of the ‘Into the Lives of the People’ initiative, under the theme ‘Pet Plants: Care as Art in Daily Life.’

Pet plants require continuous care and attention, providing a warm sense of connection. Odigi Plant is a studio leading this plant companionship culture, serving not only as a plant distributor but also as a space introducing pottery pots created in collaboration with ceramic artists and ‘caudiciform plants,’ which are rare to find domestically.
Mayor Kim listened to an introduction about caudiciform plants, a type of African bulbous plant, and discussed why the 2030 generation is interested in unique plants. He also spent time with CEO Won reflecting on the positive roles plants can play in everyday life.
CEO Won Dong-cheol stated, “We share ways to ‘live well with plants’ so that buyers can deepen their knowledge and affection for plants,” adding, “I want to create a local pet plant community space as a facilitator of plant encounters, not just a simple seller.”
Mayor Kim said, “It was a time to reconsider the positive impact plants have on citizens’ daily lives,” and added, “We will continue to explore various ways for citizens to experience green relaxation in their everyday lives, such as through ‘ecological gardens’ and ‘walkable cities.’”
Meanwhile, Uijeongbu City operates the ‘Into the Lives of the People’ program, where the mayor directly enters citizens’ daily lives to gain diverse insights.
