DGIST Graduate School of Engineering Opens Gumi Campus... 2 Billion Won Funding for Industry-Academia Linked Engineering Education Institution

DGIST (President Lee Geonwoo) will hold the opening ceremony for the ‘DGIST Graduate School of Engineering Gumi Campus’ on the 13th and officially begin operations. The DGIST Graduate School of Engineering is expected to play a central role in nurturing key technical talents required by the local industry and driving practical technological innovation through industry-academia collaboration.


The DGIST Graduate School of Engineering is an industry-academia linked engineering education institution established through cooperation between Gumi City, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and DGIST, with an investment of 2 billion KRW. It provides customized education in advanced industrial fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics. The opening ceremony, held at 2 p.m. on the 13th at the DGIST Gumi Campus, was attended by DGIST President Lee Geonwoo, Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho, and key figures from the local industry, celebrating a new beginning for the creation of a regional innovation ecosystem.

The DGIST Graduate School of Engineering offers tailored education and a state-of-the-art research environment that meets the demands of the industrial field, and operates hands-on research and corporate-linked projects in advanced industries such as semiconductors, AI, and robotics. For the first cohort, 13 employees from 12 companies have been admitted and have been receiving practical, work-centered education since March, which is expected to enhance the technological competitiveness of the local industry and contribute to the creation of new technologies.


DGIST President Lee Geonwoo stated, “As a research-oriented university, DGIST will provide customized education that reflects the needs of the industrial field and contribute to the development of national and regional industries,” adding, “Through the DGIST Graduate School of Engineering, we will further promote industry-academia cooperation and lead innovation together with the industrial sector.”


Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho emphasized, “The opening of the DGIST Graduate School of Engineering Gumi Campus is an important turning point for the continuous growth and strengthening of competitiveness in the local industry,” and added, “We will spare no effort in supporting Gumi’s semiconductor, defense, and robotics industries so that they can become globally competitive.”


Meanwhile, DGIST plans to expand cooperation with companies to lead practical technological innovation and further develop its education and research model in line with global industrial trends. In addition, the university aims to establish a systematic education program for nurturing future convergence talents and position itself as a strategic hub contributing to the national economy and regional industrial development through cooperation with domestic and international research institutions and industries.
