Monthly Housing Allowance of 200,000 Won for Long-distance University Students... Korea Student Aid Foundation Urges to Apply Soon as Deadline Approaches

The Korea Student Aid Foundation (Chairman Bae Byungil) and the Ministry of Education (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Juhyo) announced that applications for the Housing Stability Scholarship for the first semester of 2025 have been open since February 4 and will be accepted until March 18.

The Housing Stability Scholarship is a living expense support scholarship that provides up to 200,000 KRW per month for actual housing-related expenses incurred by low-income university students who have enrolled in universities far from home to help alleviate their housing burden.

University students currently enrolled in one of the 268 participating universities can apply. Unmarried students under the age of 39 who are from basic or near-basic income families and have difficulty commuting due to long-distance enrollment are eligible to receive up to 200,000 KRW per month in Housing Stability Scholarship during the semester (including during vacation if enrolled in seasonal courses).

Whether a student is considered to have enrolled in a distant university is determined based on criteria such as whether the student’s university and their parents’ registered address are in different transportation zones. For example, a student attending a university in the Seoul metropolitan area is recognized as having enrolled far from home if their parents’ registered address is outside the metropolitan area, meaning the university and parents' address are in different major transportation zones.

For areas outside major transportation zones, commuting is considered possible if the parents’ address is in the same city or an adjacent city/county as the university. If the parents’ address is outside this range, the student is recognized as having enrolled far from home and is eligible for support.

As such, in order to receive the Housing Stability Scholarship, a distance assessment based on the parents’ address information is essential. Therefore, students who wish to apply must complete the consent for providing household member information for parental address verification by 6:00 PM on the application deadline, the 25th.

Applications for the Housing Stability Scholarship can be submitted through the Korea Student Aid Foundation website or mobile app using the student’s own electronic signature method.
