Visit to Korea Development Institute
Request for Prompt Approval of Preliminary Feasibility Study
Yangsan City in Gyeongnam visited the Korea Development Institute (KDI) to request the prompt approval of the preliminary feasibility study for the 'Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan Metropolitan Railway,' a long-awaited regional project.
The preliminary feasibility study for the Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan Metropolitan Railway is currently being conducted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Korea Development Institute (KDI).
On the 12th, Yangsan City visited KDI to convey the earnest hopes and expectations of local residents for the construction of the metropolitan railway, which aims to form a unified living zone within one hour in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region and to address regional development imbalances. The city also requested an active review of policy analysis and development demand reflection to ensure the project passes the preliminary feasibility study, considering it is one of the five leading metropolitan railway projects outside the capital area.
The Busan-Yangsan-Ulsan Metropolitan Railway is a new metropolitan transportation network project included in the 4th National Rail Network Construction Plan, connecting Nopo in Busan through Yangsan Ungsang to Ulsan Station, with a total project cost of 3.0424 trillion won.
The announcement of the preliminary feasibility study results, initially scheduled for the second half of last year, has been delayed until the first half of this year, making it difficult for the project to pass the study and increasing local residents' interest.
An official from Yangsan City stated, "Through this visit to KDI, we hope to swiftly complete the preliminary feasibility study and ensure the smooth progress of the metropolitan railway project," adding, "We will do our utmost to pass the preliminary feasibility study by working closely with government ministries, Korea Rail Network Authority, and other related organizations."
