Yeosu City to Hold Yeongchwisan Azalea Festival on the 22nd and 23rd

The 33rd Yeosu Yeongchwisan Azalea Festival will be held from March 22 to 23 at the main venues of Yeongchwisan and Heungguksa Forest Park, which are known as one of the top three azalea colonies in Korea.

According to Yeosu City on the 13th, this year’s festival will begin with a Sansinje, a traditional mountain spirit ritual praying for the well-being of the nation and local residents, and will feature a variety of events for spring visitors, including a mountain concert, nest hanging, and making azalea hwajeon (flower pancakes).

To ensure smooth traffic flow, the city will restrict vehicle access to Heungguksa Forest Park and guide visitors to use temporary parking lots set up nearby.

In addition, public transportation routes to Heungguksa and Sangam areas will be expanded during the festival.

Every year from March to early April, azaleas are in full bloom on Yeongchwisan. Especially in the azalea colony, the absence of tall trees allows for a spectacular view of the profusely blooming flowers.

The hiking trail to the Yeongchwisan azalea colony takes about 1 to 3 hours. For elderly visitors or families, the recommended course is the 1.8 km section from Sangam Elementary School to Bongujae, Yeongchwisan peak, and Heungguksa.

A city official stated, “We will do our utmost to ensure the safety of citizens and tourists by maintaining order and managing traffic,” and added, “We hope you create special memories and enjoy a relaxing time in Yeosu, where the atmosphere of spring is at its fullest.”

Meanwhile, major spring attractions in Yeosu include Yeongchwisan (azaleas), Odongdo (camellias), Geumodo Bireong-gil (wild cherry blossoms), and Hwahwado (wildflowers). It is also a great place to enjoy various outdoor activities such as the Art Land Ferris Wheel, Marine Cable Car, Marine Rail Bike, and night city tours.
