Gwangju Dong-gu: "Fluoride Solution for Dental Care in Growing Children"

Future Generation Prevention Management and Fluoride Mouth Rinse Program

Gwangju Dong-gu: "Fluoride Solution for Dental Care in Growing Children" Exterior view of Gwangju Donggu District Office.

Gwangju Dong-gu (District Mayor Lim Taek) announced on the 13th that it will launch the "Future Generation Prevention Management and Fluoride Mouth Rinse Program" for local daycare centers, kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools to improve the oral health of local children.

This project was initiated as the rate of dental caries (cavities) among infants, children, and adolescents has been rapidly increasing every year, which can affect the teeth of growing children.

Through this initiative, 10ml of fluoride solution and instructions for its use will be distributed to participating institutions, helping children improve their self-care oral hygiene skills.

The Oral Health Center at Dong-gu Public Health Center will visit school dental clinics and local facilities to conduct oral examinations and provide tooth brushing education to help children develop proper brushing habits and become familiar with oral care.

Fluoride application is a method of preventing cavities by applying a thin layer of fluoride to the tooth surface to form a protective film, while fluoride mouth rinsing involves gargling with a small amount of diluted fluoride solution, which is highly effective in preventing cavities when used regularly.

Lim Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "We will focus on continuous management and improving oral health practices so that children can make oral health care a part of their daily lives by fostering knowledge and attitudes about oral health."
