Advancement of National Animal Protection Information System... New Features Added Including Dangerous Dog Management

The Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency announced on the 13th that it has completed the advancement project of the 'Korea Animal Welfare Information System (KAWIS)' and will provide four new functions including dangerous dog breeding permit management, as well as three improved functions such as real-time animal rescue and adoption statistics.

The four new functions established through this system advancement project are: ▲ management functions for dangerous dog breeding permits and dangerous dog import declarations (revised under the Animal Protection Act), ▲ a 'national service animal adoption' function for six organizations including quarantine detection dogs, drug detection dogs, and military dogs, enabling efficient management of dangerous dogs and retired service dogs serving national duties. Additionally, ▲ operation of the Public Animal Experiment Ethics Committee and ▲ a system related to 'Animal Welfare Livestock Farm Certification' have been newly established, laying the foundation for ensuring the ethics of animal experiments and systematic management of animal welfare livestock farms.

There are three improvements for user convenience: reflecting opinions from animal protection organizations, the system has been enhanced to allow real-time checking of animal rescue and adoption statistics. Also, by expanding registration details such as health information of adoption candidates and adoption procedures by center, more information is provided to prospective adopters to promote adoption activation.

Furthermore, the system has been improved to automatically reflect changes in the pet owner's address upon moving registration by linking the pet owner's resident registration address information with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Resident Registration Computer System, eliminating the need for separate reporting procedures.

In response to user demand due to the spread of the companion animal industry and culture, two additional types of data?animal loss information inquiry and real-time statistics of rescued animals?will be provided through the Public Data Portal.

Kim Jeong-hee, head of the Quarantine Agency, stated, "As we have actively incorporated the opinions of users of the National Animal Welfare Information System to advance the system, we expect improvements in public services and effective work processing by officials." She added, "We will continue to strive to become a user-centered system that satisfies users by expanding useful information disclosure and providing various conveniences."
