The eternal balladeer Park In-hwan, known for works such as "The Hobby Horse and the Lady" and "When Time Passes," marks the 69th anniversary of his passing on the 20th of this month. The poet died prematurely at the age of 31 on March 20, 1956.

Inje-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Choi Sang-gi) announced on the 13th that the Inje Cultural Foundation will hold a memorial event for poet Park In-hwan from the 14th to the 20th.


During the event period, a booth will be set up in the outdoor plaza of the Park In-hwan Literature Museum located in Inje-gun, where visitors can offer flowers and sign the guestbook in honor of the poet. Additionally, on the 20th, a "69th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony for Poet Park In-hwan" will be held at Mangwoo History and Culture Park in Seoul.


The event will be attended by Park Se-hyung, the eldest son of poet Park In-hwan, as well as writers from Inje and across the country. The program will begin with offerings and a memorial rite, followed by flower offerings and a moment of silence, recitations of memorial poems, reading of commemorative speeches, and a memorial performance of the Park In-hwan Cantata Marisosa by the Inje Ensemble.


In addition to the memorial event, the Inje Cultural Foundation operates the "Park In-hwan Award Contest" to carry on the literary spirit of poet Park In-hwan. As part of the Park In-hwan promotion project, the prize money has been significantly increased from 5 million won to 15 million won this year to expand the scale and enhance the prestige of the contest.


Furthermore, in September, a Park In-hwan Literary Festival will be held throughout Inje-gun, offering an opportunity to experience the poet’s literary spirit amid the ripening autumn festival atmosphere.


A representative of the Inje Cultural Foundation stated, “Through the Park In-hwan promotion project, we aim to build a rapport with the public, share academic achievements, and elevate the status of literature.”
