Enhanced Protection Capabilities for National Key Facilities
Establishing a Cooperative System with Relevant Agencies
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters conducted an integrated anti-terrorism protection drill on June 12 in cooperation with the 50th Infantry Division of the Army and in the vicinity of the Hanul Headquarters. The purpose was to establish a comprehensive anti-terrorism posture among civilians, government, military, police, and fire departments, and to enhance on-site operational termination capabilities.

As part of the 2025 Freedom Shield (F/S TIGER: Freedom Shield TIGER), a total of 225 personnel participated, including Hanul Headquarters’ security guards, special security forces, in-house fire brigade, subordinate units of the 50th Division, the Donghae Regional Coast Guard Special Forces, Uljin-gun police and coast guard, fire department, and the Uljin-gun Office radiation measurement team.
The drill simulated various complex scenarios: rapid vehicle infiltration at the main gate of Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters, drone attacks causing explosions and fires in buildings within the headquarters, and infiltration and explosive device installation near the drainage area from the sea.
Lieutenant Colonel Park Jongdo, commander of the 15th Coastal Surveillance Mobile Battalion, commented, “Through this drill to verify our cooperation system, we were able to unite our integrated defense operations and enhance our combat capabilities.”
Head of Headquarters Lee Seyong stated, “Through this realistic drill against potential terrorist situations at the nuclear power plant, we were able to further strengthen our protection capabilities. We will continue to do our best to conduct systematic training based on close cooperation with relevant agencies.”
