Doosan Enerbility Scores 2.2 Trillion Jackpot... Power Supply to Saudi Arabia for 25 Years

Building Two Combined Cycle Power Plants
Total Capacity of 3,600 MW... Enough Daily Electricity for 8.5 Million People

Doosan Enerbility has secured a contract worth 2.2 trillion KRW to build a combined cycle power plant in Saudi Arabia. This amount corresponds to 12.5% of Doosan Enerbility's sales last year (17.5898 trillion KRW). Saudi Arabia has recently seen a steady increase in electricity demand, but the related infrastructure is insufficient, making it a key target country for Doosan Enerbility.

On the 13th, Doosan Enerbility announced that it signed a contract with the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) consortium to construct the 'Ruma 1' and 'Nairiya 1' combined cycle power plants in Saudi Arabia. This project was commissioned through an international bidding process by the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC). The KEPCO consortium consists of KEPCO, Saudi Electricity Company, and ACWA Power, the largest private power producer in Saudi Arabia.

According to the contract, Doosan Enerbility and Saudi combined cycle power plant construction specialist company SEPCO3 will carry out the entire process of building the power plants and complete them by 2028. Doosan Enerbility and SEPCO3 will be responsible for everything from design to equipment supply, installation, and commissioning. The total contract amount for Doosan Enerbility alone is 2.2 trillion KRW.

The Ruma 1 and Nairiya 1 projects involve constructing one 1,800 MW-class combined cycle power plant each, located 80 km and 470 km northeast of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, respectively. The electricity produced will be sold to SPPC for the next 25 years. The KEPCO consortium signed a power purchase agreement with SPPC last November. If the total 3,600 MW-class combined cycle power plants operate 24 hours a day, they can supply the daily electricity consumption of approximately 3.7 million households or about 8.5 million people based on domestic standards.

Hyunho Lee, Head of the Plant Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Business Group at Doosan Enerbility, said, "This contract is a case that proves Doosan Enerbility's construction competitiveness on the international stage, coinciding with the increasing energy demand in the Middle East region," adding, "We will do our best to ensure stable power supply within Saudi Arabia."
