Navy Conducts Protection Drill for Busan New Port National Key Facility ... All Terrorists Apprehended Naval Special Warfare Brigade special operations forces are subduing terrorists.

This drill, held as part of the Freedom Shield exercise, included participation from Jingisa's Land Security Battalion and Base Defense Battalion, the Special Operations Battalion under the Naval Special Warfare Flotilla, Busan New Port Authority, Changwon Maritime Police Station, Busan Gangseo Police Station and Gangseo Fire Station, and Busan Customs.

The exercise was conducted to strengthen the Navy and related agencies' rapid port protection response capabilities against potential terrorist threats at Busan New Port, a national key facility that handles the largest volume of cargo in the country, with an annual average of over 13,000 ships and 22 million containers passing through.

The drill began when the port's integrated situation room received a report that terrorists who had infiltrated Busan New Port by sea attacked a security team member on patrol and then fled the scene.

In response to the situation, Jingisa immediately dispatched standby units to the land and sea sites at Busan New Port, relayed the situation to related agencies and units including the Naval Special Warfare Flotilla, Changwon Maritime Police Station, Busan Gangseo Police Station, and Gangseo Fire Station, and began pursuit of the terrorists.

Meanwhile, when the fleeing terrorists detonated explosives at critical facilities within the port, Jingisa's CBRN Support Unit conducted initial fire suppression and simultaneously detected for CBRN agents. As no agents were detected, Busan Gangseo Fire Station personnel quickly extinguished the fire.

The Special Operations Battalion of the Naval Special Warfare Flotilla subdued the terrorists through engagement, and the drill concluded as the suspects were handed over to the regional joint investigation team.

Park Seongbong (Lieutenant Colonel), Jingisa's Operations Staff Officer who supervised the drill, stated, "This exercise was significant as it effectively utilized integrated defense capabilities of the military, government, police, and fire services in response to a terrorist situation at a national key facility. We will continue to do our best to protect the lives and safety of the public through close cooperation with related agencies."
