The city is promoting the inscription of Bukhansanseong in Goyang City as a World Heritage site under the name "Hanyang Capital Fortress Walls," along with Seoul's Hanyangdoseong and Tangchundaeseong. In 2024, it received positive feedback from the "World Heritage Preliminary Assessment," increasing the possibility of inscription.
Ahead of this year's domestic application review, the value and inscription process of the World Heritage site "Hanyang Capital Fortress Walls" will be explained through a total of four lectures.
The first citizen lecture, held on the 18th at 3:30 PM in the meeting room of Baekseok Office Building in Goyang City, will be conducted by Professor Choi Jae-heon, chairman of the Korean Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), under the theme "Understanding UNESCO World Heritage."
Subsequently, Professor Kim Young-soo of the University of Seoul, Senior Researcher Park Hyun-wook of the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, and Officer Kim Myung-ok of Seoul City Hall will deliver diverse lectures every Monday on various topics.
Goyang Special City plans to enhance citizens' understanding of World Heritage inscription through this lecture series and continuously support voluntary monitoring activities such as the "Bukhansanseong Citizen Supporters."
