Gwangju Office of Education and Local Universities Join Hands for RISE Project

Expanding Local Talent Development and Educational Cooperation
Investing 88.2 Billion KRW

The Gwangju Office of Education is joining forces with local universities to actively promote the Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) project.

The city education office announced on the 13th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with six local universities?Gwangju National University of Education, Gwangju Health University, Gwangju Women's University, Nambu University, Seoyoung University, and Chosun Nursing College?to implement the RISE project.


The RISE project is a system that supports universities in playing a central role in regional development, enabling both the region and universities to overcome challenges together. To this end, the city of Gwangju will invest 88.2 billion KRW this year.


Under this agreement, the parties will jointly promote initiatives such as fostering local talent, solving community issues, sharing resources, nurturing prospective talent and supporting employment and entrepreneurship, and establishing a sustainable local ecosystem.


In addition, tailored to each university's characteristics, the following projects will be promoted: support for Neulbom School and integrated care (Gwangju National University of Education, Gwangju Women's University, Gwangju Health University, Nambu University); high school-linked talent development (Gwangju Women's University, Gwangju Health University, Nambu University, Seoyoung University, Chosun Nursing College); teacher training programs (Gwangju National University of Education, Gwangju Health University); and development of high school-linked curricula (Gwangju National University of Education, Chosun Nursing College).


The Gwangju Office of Education is currently operating 63 educational cooperation projects with a total budget of 2.3 billion KRW and plans to expand these collaborative efforts in the future.


Superintendent Lee Jungseon stated, "The RISE project is an important initiative to overcome the crisis of regional extinction and enable universities and the region to grow together," and added, "We will work with local universities to nurture talent and contribute to regional development."
