The Daejeon city government announced that it has signed an agreement with the Daejeon-Chungnam Regional Headquarters of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) to support victims of Jeonse fraud and ensure housing stability.
Under the agreement, Daejeon will operate a Jeonse Fraud Victim Support Center and actively cooperate with LH's housing support projects to stabilize the housing situation for victims. LH will purchase affected properties and assist with victim housing support and the operation of the support center.
This agreement was made to establish a close cooperative system between the two organizations, as support measures such as the purchase of Jeonse fraud-affected homes were expanded following the revision of the Special Act for Jeonse Fraud Victims in November last year.
The government has also changed its policy to allow the purchase of previously excluded illegal buildings after a legalization process. The secured homes will be supplied as rental housing to Jeonse fraud victims.
Accordingly, Daejeon is actively promoting the policy to purchase Jeonse fraud-affected homes so that LH can more frequently exercise its right of first refusal, aiming to ease the rental burden on victims.
As of the end of February this year, there were 3,238 Jeonse fraud victims in the Daejeon area, with 522 of them having applied to LH for the purchase of their affected properties. So far, LH has purchased 19 such homes.
Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "We hope this agreement will provide real help for victims' housing stability by enabling the swift purchase of Jeonse fraud-affected homes," adding, "We will strengthen support for victims through close cooperation with LH."
