According to Yeoju City Public Health Center on the 12th, this examination was promoted as part of the new Hansen’s disease patient discovery project. A total of 151 local residents participated, and the program was conducted by providing free treatment for persistent skin diseases such as athlete’s foot, eczema, and itching, along with related medications.
Hansen’s disease is a chronic infectious disease that can occur at any age regardless of gender, affecting the skin, peripheral nervous system, and upper respiratory mucosa, causing tissue deformation. If diagnosed early and treatment is started, it is a disease that can be completely cured with almost no sequelae.
The next schedule for the free skin disease examination, conducted to detect patients early and promote the health of local residents, is planned for June, and detailed schedules and locations will be announced later.
An Seon-suk, Director of the Health Administration Division, said, “Although Hansen’s disease is stably managed domestically, it has not yet been eradicated, so early detection is important. We plan to continue the free treatment project together with the Hansen Welfare Association.”
