Geochang County Conducts Joint Emergency Drill at Civil Service Office

Geochang County, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 12th that it conducted a "simulation drill for emergency situations in the civil service office" in cooperation with the Geochang Police Station, under the supervision of the County Office Civil Affairs Communication Division.

This drill has been conducted twice a year since 2023, simulating situations where civil petitioners may use abusive language or violence. It focuses on strengthening the response capabilities of public officials through an emergency response team composed of four units and checking police dispatch procedures when the emergency bell is activated.

This drill proceeded in the following order: occurrence and continuation of abusive language, notification and subsequent recording/filming, threat to civil servants, intervention by supervisors, activation of the emergency bell and summoning of security guards, protection of victimized officials and evacuation of other petitioners, and finally, handover to the police. The goal was to safely resolve the situation through prompt action in accordance with the guidelines for handling special civil petition cases.

No Minseop, head of the Civil Affairs Communication Division, said, "Since situations caused by special civil petitions can occur at any time, it is essential to establish a thorough response system and conduct regular drills. We will continue to do our best to ensure that the civil service office is a safe and comfortable place for visitors."

Geochang County also plans to conduct emergency response simulation drills for special civil petition cases at 12 town and township administrative welfare centers by the 14th.

Meanwhile, Geochang County is implementing various preventive measures to protect employees and other petitioners from special (malicious) civil petitions, such as installing CCTV and emergency bells, using recording systems and portable video recording devices. In addition, healing programs and psychological counseling programs for staff are being operated to help civil affairs officials maintain emotional stability and relieve stress.
