Investment of 8.2 Trillion KRW... Complex Development of High-Tech Industry, MICE, Residential, and Transportation Sectors
Mayor Lee Sang-il: "Will Become a Hub Leading Yongin's Fourth Industrial Revolution"
The development of 'Gyeonggi Yongin Platform City,' a complex development project covering 2.73 million square meters around Guseong Station on the Seoul Metropolitan Area's Great Train Express (GTX), has broken ground four years after the district was designated.
On the 11th, Yongin City held a groundbreaking ceremony for Gyeonggi Yongin Platform City attended by about 500 people, including Mayor Lee Sang-il, Kim Seong-jung, First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Lee Jong-seon, Acting President of Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH), and Shin Kyung-chul, President of Yongin Urban Corporation.

This project, which involves an investment of approximately 8.268 trillion KRW to develop about 2.729 million square meters around Guseong Station on GTX-A and the Suin-Bundang Line, including Bojeong, Mabuk, and Singal-dong in Giheung-gu and Sanghyeon and Pungdeokcheon-dong in Suji-gu, is a large-scale urban development project led by the public sector. The project is jointly implemented by Gyeonggi Province, Yongin City, GH, and Yongin Urban Corporation.
The Platform City is planned to include ▲377,718㎡ of residential land ▲158,701㎡ of commercial land ▲449,705㎡ of industrial land ▲1,629,291㎡ of urban infrastructure land ▲113,454㎡ of other facility land. The planned population is 27,283, with 10,105 housing units to be supplied, including 1,954 public rental housing units. The target completion date for the site development project is 2030.
The city plans to attract high-tech companies such as semiconductor research and development (R&D) firms to the 450,000㎡ industrial facility land. Through this, it aims to create 55,000 jobs. Approximately 90,000 pyeong (about 297,520㎡) around Guseong Station will be designated as a 'special planning zone' where MICE facilities such as a convention center and hotels will be installed, and a creative complex urban plan will be established through a public-private partnership bidding process.
The city especially plans to efficiently connect the metropolitan transportation network, including the Suin-Bundang Line and the Gyeongbu Underground Expressway, centered on Guseong Station to create a 'southern metropolitan transportation hub.' Since the Gyeongbu Underground Expressway project between Yongin Giheung and Seoul Yangjae passed the preliminary feasibility study review by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in August last year, the plan is to make Platform City a key base linking Yongin's major industrial hubs. To improve highway accessibility, the city also included the installation of an interchange (IC) for entry to the Gyeongbu Underground Expressway in the metropolitan transportation improvement measures for development.
Mayor Lee Sang-il emphasized, "Platform City will create excellent cultural, leisure, and commercial spaces for citizens," adding, "In particular, semiconductor industry material, parts, and equipment companies, as well as artificial intelligence (AI) and bio-related companies, will move in to lead the development of Yongin's Fourth Industrial Revolution."
