Redesigning Strategies for Early and Regular College Admissions

The Gwangju Office of Education will distribute the material titled "Understanding the Changed College Admission System for 2028" to all high schools on the 11th. This material contains the revised college admission plan that will be applied starting with this year's first-year high school students.

"Change from the First Exam" Gwangju Office of Education Distributes College Admission Guide for First-Year High School Students Gwangju Office of Education building.

This material was produced by the Career and College Admission Team. It is designed for use by students, parents, and teachers. The Office of Education plans to strengthen student counseling and career guidance based on this material. College admission counselors will also visit schools to give special lectures.

The college admission system will undergo significant changes to align with the high school credit system implemented this year. The evaluation methods for the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) and school grades will be changed.

Korean and Mathematics will be restructured as common subjects. Korean will consist of "Speech and Language, Reading and Writing, and Literature," while Mathematics will include "Algebra, Calculus I, and Probability and Statistics." For the inquiry section, students must take both Social Studies (Integrated Social Studies) and Science (Integrated Science). The previous elective subjects will be abolished.

The school grading system will change from a 9-level scale to a 5-level scale. All subjects will be evaluated with an absolute grading system, but the previous relative grading levels (1-5) will also be indicated. For integrated social and science elective subjects, only absolute grading will be applied.

A Gwangju Office of Education official explained, "Korean and Mathematics will become the core subjects in the CSAT," and added, "For social and science inquiry questions from Integrated Social Studies and Integrated Science, literacy and comprehensive thinking skills are important."

In the early admission process based on student records, to supplement the 5-level grading system, there is a possibility of ▲raising the minimum CSAT score requirement, ▲introducing subject evaluation, and ▲implementing in-depth interviews based on provided materials.

In the regular admission process centered on the CSAT, subject evaluation may also be added. The Gwangju Office of Education advised, "First-year high school students should prepare their grades, school records, and CSAT scores in a balanced way."

Superintendent Lee Jeongseon stated, "We will quickly provide information so that students can systematically prepare for the changes in the admission process."

The nationwide academic assessment for first-year high school students on the 26th will be conducted in the current format. Starting June 3, the revised CSAT system will be applied.
